Dear Friends

Apologies for not having been in touch for such a long time but the last few months were packed with presentations, endurance training and a two-week climbing holiday in Croatia, during which I also had the time to recharge my batteries.

After last year’s accident, I was not sure what my next expedition would be. I did not know for a long time whether and when I would go back to K2. This question kept me occupied for a long time and I continuously talked to Ralf about it. He always listened, however, he did not want to influence my decision-making at all. Despite the waiting period I finally decided to go back to K2 this summer.

This time we would like to tackle the North Pillar from the Chinese side.

I am very excited about the approach route, which leads over the Aghil Pass (4,750m) and then continues through the remote and beautiful Skaksgam Valley to our base camp (3,900m). Not many people have been to this unique and remote valley, where the rivers are so swollen that you need camels to get across!

I will write more just before we embark on our journey, which will probably be in mid-June.

Tommy Heinrich from Argentina and Ralf will definitely be part of the expedition, and there is a chance that a friend from Poland will also join. There is also the possibility that two friends from Kazakhstan will join us, however, it is not yet certain. In any case, I am very excited about this expedition.

I hope you will have a great summer and thank you so much for your patience.

Warm Regards

Gerlinde
